Hanuman Jayanti 2025: A Day to Celebrate Strength, Devotion, and Faith
Hanuman Jayanti is a special day in the Hindu calendar that honors the birth of Lord Hanuman, the mighty devotee of Lord Rama. Known for his unparalleled strength, loyalty, and courage, Hanuman stands as a timeless symbol of devotion and selfless service.
In 2025, this sacred day will be observed on Saturday, April 12, in most parts of India.
Who Is Lord Hanuman?
Lord Hanuman is one of the most loved and worshipped deities in Hinduism. He’s often described as the perfect blend of power and humility. A key figure in the Ramayana, Hanuman played a crucial role in helping Lord Rama rescue Sita from the demon king Ravana.
Devotees revere him not only for his strength but also for his deep spiritual wisdom and unwavering focus. His name is often chanted for protection, courage, and overcoming difficult situations.
The Divine Birth of Hanuman
Hanuman’s birth is rooted in divine blessings and cosmic purpose.
His mother, Anjana, was an apsara (celestial being) who was cursed to be born on Earth. She prayed intensely to Lord Shiva for a son who would help her break the curse. Pleased with her devotion, Shiva granted her the boon of a powerful child.
At the same time, King Dasharatha of Ayodhya was performing a ritual to be blessed with sons. As part of the ritual, sacred kheer (a divine sweet) was given to his queens. By divine design, a portion of this kheer was carried away by the wind god Vayu and delivered to Anjana while she was meditating.
Upon consuming it, Anjana gave birth to Hanuman, who was born with divine qualities from Lord Shiva and the blessings of Vayu, making him a Vayuputra (son of the wind god).
From birth, Hanuman showed incredible strength, once mistaking the sun for a fruit and leaping into the sky to grab it. Even the gods were amazed by his energy and fearlessness.
When Is Hanuman Jayanti Celebrated?
While the date of Hanuman Jayanti varies across regions, here's how it's typically observed:
North India: Celebrated on the full moon day (Purnima) of the Hindu month of Chaitra – this falls on April 12, 2025.
Maharashtra: Observed a few days earlier, on Chaitra Shukla Trayodashi.
Southern States: In Tamil Nadu and Kerala, it is observed in December–January, while in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka, a 41-day observance begins on Chaitra Purnima.
Traditions and Rituals
Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated with great devotion and enthusiasm. Here’s how devotees usually observe the occasion:
🔸 Morning Prayers and Temple Visits
People start the day with an early bath and visit Hanuman temples to offer prayers. Devotees apply vermilion (sindoor) to Hanuman idols, as it is considered sacred and a sign of strength.
🔸 Recitation of Sacred Texts
